Planet Matterz
684 Wynnum Road Morningside Ph: 3399 6008
http://planetmatterz.com/
Well its about time there was a extremely healthy option for everyone to eat out at in Brisbane. Please correct me if im wrong but Planet Matterz in Morningside on the Eastside of Brisbane is one of few organic cafes / restaurants open for business. Not only is Planet Matterz a cafe but it is also an organic supermarket, butcher, bakery and to a lesser extent clothing store, you can even arrange to see a Naturopath. Being as passionate about health and wellbeing as I am Planet Matterz is something truly special and unique in Brisbanes culinary market. Every time I have been there I have left the place with a smile on my face, feeling fresh as were my insides. You can order either off the menu or from the pre made deli food from the glass cabinet. I have had both, for something like breakfast I would suggest to order from the menu and lunch from the cabinet. For an organic cafe you get great value for your money, Iam tired of paying top dollar at some places and get jipped in quantity and quality. That is certainly not a problem at Planet Matterz, for $20 I got a full plate including a piece of spinach and cheese pastry slice and well as a chicken croquette topped all off with combination salad of shaved carrot and sultana's as well as pumpkin and feta. Service is very chilled and relaxed and meals are always on time.
Judging from other reviews and surfing the net a lot of people dont realise Planet Matterz exists, so guys help me spread the word especially all of you that need gluten free options , it is a tremendous place to dine and shop and if your not a vegetarian or organic eater I dare say you might be turned. Also if I havent convinced you enough check out a pretty impressive web site.

Albertos espresso bar
462 Montague Road West End
http://www.albertosshot.com.au/
Well thank god for the Italians, Albertos shot espresso in West End proves that Italians really are the masters in coffee. If your looking for a relaxed atmosphere with a suburban feel get along to Albertos. I have always been envious of the residents in West End but now I have discovered Albertos I am even more, not everyone is fortunate enough to have such quality coffee walking distance from their homes. If you live far away it will be quite difficult for you to get to Albertos due the their hours, they are open from 6.30am to 2.30pm Mon - Fri and 7.30 to 2.30 on weekends. Machiatto drinkers will especially appreciate Albertos, my machiatto was so smooth and prefect I could actually sit back and sip on it and relax like every Italian does. Most cafes get their machiatto's wrong, I find them so bitter that I have to add sugar and throw it back, but at Albertos my machiatto was so good I ordered another straight after id finished my first. The crowd is trendy and quirky and you can tell all customers appreciate quality coffee, focaccia's, muffins and daily specials are all available to eat.
A lot of reviews on Albertos all agree that the coffee is amazing but the service is below par, I found it to be fine although one of the staff members was a little strange, the service is very quick and your coffee is pretty much made by the time you are at your seat. Albertos would be ideal for business meetings and long catch ups with friends over a good cup of coffee.
Ciao Grazie.

The Hellenic Club - Cafenio
Yasuo followers,
THE HELLENIC CLUB in Brisbane's greek capital of West End on Russell street, is a tradition and a second home for Brisbanes Greek community. Im going to go straight out on a lim here and brand The Hellenic Club serves the best Greek cuisine in Brisbane, if not the best than definitely the most authentic apart from the Korean backpacker waitresses. Located in a old greek style building The Hellenic Club is kind of hard to find, look for the white building with the big pillars out the front. The crowd is mostly old greek men, arguing and laughing over a game of Tavlie, the greek version of Backgammon. The walls are surrounded by old greek soccer team photos and vintage greek landmarks. The decor I dont think has changed since it opened which is okay because it adds character, see the hellenic club is more a cafe than a restaurant. Theres plenty of seating available but I suggest sitting on the balcony especially when summer comes around. The menu offeres limited options but I suggest the chicken souvlaki with greek salad, I get this dish every time without fail and it has yet to disappoint me, what i also like is it is greek tradition you eat with bread, so you should receive a unlimited free bread sticks with your meal, the food is so good here I am always stealing food of my friends plates. If you like a good iced coffee I always like a good frappe to topp of a great meal.
The hellenic club gives you a touch of Greece in our own backyard, theres no need to get dressed up or bring your credit card, just turn up and enjoy the brillant food. Hellas vlaka.

Caravanseri
1-9 Dornoch Terrace West End, Ph: 3217 2617
http://www.caravanserairestaurant.com.au/index.html
I have heard mixed reviews about Caravanseri, so of course I had to try it for myself. Everytime I've walked past its been absolutely heaving with patrons and every time I have tried to get a table without pre booking there has been an hour to two hour wait. Caravanseri fast becoming one of Brisbane's most talk about restaurants. Last night was my long awaited much anticipated appearance at Caravanseri restaurant. The decor is really authentic and sets the mood, similar to what you would find in most Turkish restaurants. Parking though is a nightmare, if your lucky to land a park directly outside, otherwise street parking is the only way to go which in West End is always difficult. Tables are both inside and out but if you feel the cold like I do I would advise against eating outside as there is no to limited heating, after a table became available inside we snapped it up and moved in. Inside provides a great atmosphere, flames are firing from the kitchen, people are laughing and everything's quite loud. The menu is quite limited which isn't a bad thing really as I find some menu's are overcrowded with dishes and are complicated. We decided to go for the Istanbul Sublime, a platter for two involving lamb cutlets, chicken skewers, garlic prawns, chilli mussels, haloumi, fresh salads, dipping sauces, rice and warm bread. From experience platters are the way to go at Turkish resurtrants and to a starving stomach the bigger the better. When we eventually got our platter it was simply beautiful, the flavours and textures were so delicious except for one of my lamb cutlets which was a little underdone, with a pricetag of $63.50 I would had expected the Istanbul Sublime to be a little bigger. Still being a little peckish we just couldn't resist the dessert menu. Everything from baclava to turkish delights we tried it and they were aboslutley devine. Our desserts really hit the spot which topped off a wonderful meal, I was even more please with my skinny latte which was one of the better ones I have had for some time.
From the negative reviews I have read on Caravanseri they all complain about the service. We waited an hour for our meal to arrive and believe me that time went slow, I wouldn't normally mind waiting this long for food but both my girlfriend and I were starving so that hour dragged on, only once were we updated on the status of our order. Some Turkish bread would had been nice whilst we waited so long for our meal. In saying that the service was still pretty good, we had a fantastic waiter who thanked us for our patience on our wait for the meal. Caravanseri would be a great place to go in a big group of people, although I would expect a lengthy wait on the meal so defiantly order entrees. I will defiantly go back to Caravanseri although next time I will be with a lot more people, as a lover of Turkish cuisine I find Caravanseri to be different to Brisbane's other Turkish restaurants, its BYO and so for corkage you are charged by the person. Opening everyday apart from Monday Caravanseri is defiantly a restaurant worth going to just remember to book at least two days in advance.

Mos Burger
http://www.mos.co.jp/english/overseas/storeinfo/australia/index.html
Everybody welcome another new competitor to the already heavily competitive fast food business - Mos Burger. Australia's first Mos burger store is now open for business at Sunnybank plaza, so us Brisbaneites should feel privileged especially me as it is a five minute drive from my house. When I first saw Mos Burger I really didn't think it was anything special, until I saw the people lining up outside waiting to be seated. I hate to say it but I never really gave Mos Burger a chance until my friend told me that it was one of Japans biggest fast food chains, so it had to be good. Today was my second time at Mos burger and it was today that i decided it was blog worthy. If your not a fast food / burger eater then its probably best you give it a miss, but for all the rest of us you have to give it a try. If your expecting a super sized whopper style meal then forget it, Mos Burger is fast food Japanese style, meals are small. Everything runs super smooth, how often at other places do we wait for ages or something goes wrong with our order, in typical Japanese style, everything is well organised and runs like clockwork, also the service is great and super friendly, and is equivalent as any restaurant. As soon as you enter you are met with a '' Welcome to MOS BURGER " by all staff members. The only downside is that you are fairly limited with choice of burgers, but I can assure you that what IS on offer is good. I have tried the self titled Mos burger, the wagu beef cheese burger the seafood rice burger and the beef yakiniku rice burger. In case you were wondering what a rice burger is, its pretty self explanatory, instead of the bun of the burger being bread, its sticky rice. If your thinking that would be hard to eat...... its not, its actually easier to eat than bread so you can shove it down faster on occasions when your starving. Mos burger also offers soups and salads, and iced tea as well as your regular soft drinks, I would like to see one of Japans favourite soft drinks on offer. My recommendations would be the wagu beef cheese burger if you want a regular fast food burger, if you to go Japanese with your order, go for the beef yakiniku rice burger, its flavour is delicious. Frankly I can't shut up about Mos burger, Im telling everyone to go there and try it out and I can wait to go back. Although it is new and time will tell whether Mos burger is here to stay or whether it was a craze.

Dell-Ugo - Dellllllllllicous
82 Grey Street, South Brisbane, Queensland.
http://www.dellugosouthbank.com.au/
Well my long awaited appearance at Dell-ugo finally arrived last week and it was everything I was hoping for. Located in South Bank, Dell-ugo is a fine dining Italian restaurant bringing class, elegance and quality. Dell-ugo is expensive, but you can certainly justify the prices as soon as you enter. The decor is classy and well designed, but we all go to restaurant for the food and the food is devine. My Mother and I shared a three course meal, for entree I had the calamari, they were generous with portion size but the taste, my god was delicious, the calamari literally melted in your mouth. For my main, I had the Home-made ricotta gnocchi w/ rabbit ragu & shaved parmesan it was beautiful, but my Mum had the Lasagna w/ crab meat, prawns, tomato, béchamel & parmesan served on a bed of tomato & béchamel sauce, defiantly the highlight. To top it all off for dessert we had the white chocolate mouse with almond biscuit and poached pear, washing it all down with two skinny cappuccino. Dell-ugo is a wine drinkers paradise, just take a look at the massive cellar at the back of the restaurant, there are over 150 Italian, Australian and New Zealand wines to choose from. If you are uneducated about wine ask for Yianni's recommendations.
http://www.dellugosouthbank.com.au/brisbane-italian-restaurant-wine/wine_list/
The service is of the highest standard, faultless, again justifying the prices. If I had more money I would had tipped, which is rare because we Aussies never tip. If you do not wish to dine then at least go to Dell-Ugo for drinks, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the finer things in life whilst looking out at South Bank parklands and city views. Dell-Ugo would be a great place to propose, they also do wedding receptions and hold regular and special events. I will be back at Dell-Ugo for sure, I am not made of money but I am prepared to spend that money again to get the traditional fine dining experience, especially for authentic Italian cuisine.

Blackstar coffee
Blackstar coffee in West End are primarily coffee roasters but also a cafe in their own right. Located in Thomas street off Vulture street, Blackstar coffee absolutely oozes character. You can find Blackstar coffee beans in a various Brisbane cafes, but I think Blackstar's cafe is a one of a kind and an escape from reality. Open 7 days opening at 7am till late, to get the full experience go on a Sunday. You will find all types of life, with people watching more entertaining than a broadway musical, at Blackstar you can certainly be yourself. I ordered a skinny cap and a interesting pastry dish called boloni. My cappuccino was very strong, very different to anything I've had lately, very bitter . My highlight was my boloni ( not to be confused with the american sausage ) an indescribable dish but certainly a must. Instead of receiving a table number, staff will hand you either a board game token or a toy. The crowd is very diverse, but mainly alternative and musical, with ages ranging from late teens to late 60's, also very gay friendly. If your sitting at home on a Sunday twiddling your thumbs and wanting some social interaction, wonder on down to Blackstar coffee.

Archive - West End
http://www.archivebeerboutique.com.au/
100 Boundary Street West End Brisbane, Ph: 3844 3419.
If you're a beer and cider lover then you have to get your drink on at Archive in West End. If you're tired of the same old traditional Aussie beers in Brisbane's watering holes and you especially love a good pale ale, then Archive will be heaven for you. Located below Uber on Boundary Street Archive is a brilliant place to check out. Whether you are looking for a night out or a place to have lunch, Archive will definitely make you want to return. Offering the finest of local and overseas beers according to their website Archive has, "eight constantly rotating draught beers on tap and over 200 different bottled beers in our bar fridges ,as well as another 100 or so more beers are available in our Next Door Cellar bottle-shop". Can it get much better than is?. It's also nice to see passion in a workplace and this is quite obvious at Archive. Every little detail has been gone into such as the interior design through to their beer selection and bistro menu. Book shelves full of old novels and hard covered Readers Digests run along the back wall. Another wall is layered with recycled paper comic books but where it really gets impressive is the bar itself. Although it is hard to describe imagine a bar tiled with leather bound books. A big plus for me is the pool tables and darts boards, personally I love a game of pool over a few beers and everywhere you go there is always a snooker hotshot ready to challenge you to a game. I haven't yet come across one of these types at Archive and to be honest I dont think I will.
In terms of food, Archive's bistro offers vibrant tasty dishes. The mains are big meals and as an alternative I would even suggest maybe sharing a couple of entrée's and I think there is more variety on offer on the entré menu anyway. There are also plenty of vegetarian and gluten free dishes.
I don't think I have seen a bar in Brisbane with such uniqueness and Archive could certainly give Melbourne a run for their money. Archive is becoming very popular from Wednesday through to Sunday night and I have seen Archive petty crowded with people. Service is 1st class and for now I can't find a bad thing to say about Archive.

Thai Essence Cafe
2/130 Bennett's Road Brisbane - 3398 1399 Open Daily 9am-5pm
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Thai-Essence-Day-Spa-Cafe/146896455320774
When I first came across Thai Essence I was driving on Bennetts road and noticed a sign announcing 'duck wraps available here' and couldn't resist checking it out. After taking a closer look I found the appeal of the place was very alluring. Formally a house, Thai Essence has a very comfortable feel. There are two seating areas, one located in the front of the shop, in a lounge setting and the other an outside courtyard. Surrounded in greenery and traditional Thai statues, the courtyard is a perfect place to escape. Without fail I always order the duck wrap, and it never lets me down. Thai Essence also offers a variety of food, including asian salads, they also do breakfast. Segafreda is the brand of coffee they use (which is one of my favourites) and the Thai essence staff certainly make a good cappucino. Their service is faultless, quick and quiet. Thai Essence also has a day spa for massages and beauty treatment. A big plus for me is that there is FREE parking, located at the rear of the building. Overall Thai essence is a great experience and ideal for wanting an escape from the house or work. Check It Out!

Oishii Sushi Bar 2/70 Pinelands Road Sunnybank Hills PH: (07) 3423 7774
Oishii sushi is not only the best sushi I've had in Brisbane but possibly the best sushi I've tasted anywhere. I look forward to the day my opinion is changed but until that day the crown stays with Oishii. Located on the southside in Sunnybank Hills you'll find Oishii tucked away in a tiny little shopping centre on Pinelands road. If you are a lover of sushi than you have to make the journey out to Sunnybank Hills and give Oishii a go. These days Im a little over sushi trains, I find them too hot n cold and are always inconsistent with their freshness of the sushi. Oishii is a sushi bar made fresh as you order. Never once have i been disappointed with service and more importantly the food. When I go to Oishii I usually order the Himawari and spider roll. The Spider roll is particularly yummy its contains a soft shell crab filling rolled in japanese fishcake and egg. Today I ordered the Unagi Maki ( eel ) at first I was a little hesitant to try eel but I was glad i did, wrapped in a egg omelette the Maki is a new favourite. I also find the ginger and wasabi served with it quite tasty, i usually hate the taste of wasabi but at Oishii I can nibble on it without dry reaching. My other recommendations would be the Avaocado Fantasy, Red Bull and the Snake roll. If whoever you are dining with dosent like sushi, Oishii offers plenty of curry and rice dishes as well as another favourite of mine the Omu yakisoba which is fired noodle again wrapped in omelette deliciousssssss. Parking is a complete nightmare, I find it almost impossible to get a park so if you cant get a park in the allocated spaces, park at the pinelands shopping centre and simply walk down. Oishii is open for lunch and dinner but closing in between the two sittings, they are also closed Mondays. Everybody go to Oishii where your money will be well spent 10 out of 10.

Browndog Cafe @ The Gabba
http://www.browndogcafe.com.au/
Browndog Cafe 54 Logan Rd Wolloongabba Ph: 3891 7355
I might have said this before but the Browndog Cafe would have to be one my favourite cafes in Brisbane. If i cannot think of somewhere new to go i will always go to the Browndog, Why? because I know Im going to get great coffee, food and defiantly great service. When eating at cafes i always try to reframe from ordering sandwiches because i think i can make them better myself, but at the Browndog i am proven wrong. Made from freshly delivered bread in the mornings all of Browndog's sandwiches are beautiful and offer something different. They are generous with the fillings and are neatly presented and you get your value for money which is what we are all after. I have also eaten breakfast which passed in flying colours, i opted for the ever present eggs benedict which again is making me hungry whilst typing. I also love the layout and the design of the Browndog, in-particular the seating on the right hand side of the building facing the street. I could sit there for hours and drink my coffee and read a book especially in the wonderful autumn weather Brisbane is currently having. There is street parking but unfortunately you have to pay but if your quick you can get away with it. I wish i worked or lived around the Gabba so i could be more of a Browndog Cafe regular.

Chat Thai !!!!
Shop 8 Market Square Cnr Mains Rd And McCullough St, Sunnybank Ph: 3345 1123
I, like most Aussies love Thai food, I have to have it once a week if the budget allows me. Having a good Thai Restaurant within 5 minutes drive from home is sublime but also dangerous for the waistline. Chat Thai of Sunnybank in Brisbane's south is so delicious my mouth is watering as I type. In case you were unaware Sunnybank is the Asian capital of Brisbane and if you're after authentic Asian food come to Sunnybank, in particular, Market Square Shopping Center. Located next to 7 eleven Chat Thai is the best Thai I have eaten in a long time. All Thai food is rich in flavor and Chat Thai certainly does not disappoint. What I really like is that the menu offers a little more variety than most Thai Restaurants but I still cannot go past the red duck curry. The duck is cooked to perfection and the creamy coconut sauce is to die for, lychees also add sweetness to the dish and it keeps me going back countless times. I have also tried various other dishes on the menu and they all deserve two thumbs up. It's a very brave and confident sign when a restaurant installs see-through glass between the kitchen and the patrons. I'm not a fan of the cheesy Asian pop videos on playback on the Restaurant's TV's but at least they're on mute. So all you north, west and east of the river come down to Sunnybank for some seriously good Thai, it will be worth the trip.

The Bunker - Brisbane's Coolest Concept
http://www.bunkercoffee.com.au/
The Bunker 21 Railway terrace Milton
Located adjacent to the Milton train station on Railway Tce, the Bunker is Brisbane's hidden gem. Situated in the garage of an old Queenslander the bunker is actually an old air raid shelter smothered by intertwining vine inside and outside the walls. The Bunker offers something a little different in coffee with pure melted chocolate stirred through the coffee and different blends used on different days. The concept is so simple but so brilliantly done, trading on word of mouth you will find people waiting for an order or lounging about on the few wooden stools enjoying a coffee. Mornings are busy with early morning commuters passing on their way to work to pick up a takeaway or locals stopping by on their morning walk or run. My skinny cappuccino was strong and tasty with no need for sugar, the topping of chocolate sprinkles are fresh and not pre packed which adds tons of flavor. The service is good but not overly friendly but you can afford to be when what your serving is brilliant. If you are in the area and craving a coffee get away from the commercialised Park Road and head down to the Bunker - just look for vine encrusted walls.

The Ground Floor - quick and tasty
The Ground Floor is a little coffee cart you will find at the bottom of the Qsuper building on the corner of Charlotte and Eagle Streets in the city. On my way to an appointment I was in desperate need of a quick coffee. I wanted a quick, quality coffee without the B.S and that's exactly what I got. In the middle of Brisbane's hustle and bustle the Ground Floor offers a 5 minute escape from the noise whilst enjoying your favourite brew. The Ground Floor is not really a sit down place however caters for a few patrons to "drink in". The go is you order, pay, get your coffee and continue about your daily business which is exactly the sort of clientele of the Ground Floor. My coffee was perfect and gave me the pick-me-up I was after so, if you work around the Riverside end of town and want a quick quality coffee, duck into the Ground Floor and pick up an early morning "heart starter" on your way to work.

Kerbside - for something different
http://www.kerbside.com.au/
Kerbside has been open for a few weeks now but I just haven't got around to blogging about it. Located next to the Fringe bar on Constance street in the Valley, Kerbside is a breath of fresh air and something different which is exactly what the Valley needed. As soon as you enter you are met with an incredible graffiti mural on the monster back wall. The decor is an eclectic mix of vintage sofas and lounge chairs to relax on whilst sipping the drink of your choice. The smoking area outside is surronded by an old vaccant block which adds a lot of character and kinda makes you feel like you're in a bar in Brooklyn or something. The service is great, very professional and unbelievably quick (which is nice because no one likes sobering up whislt your in line waiting to be served for your next drink). Even the bouncer was friendly but most importantly you can actually relax and hear the person talking next to you whilst the Dj plays refreshingly good music which makes you want to stay for hours.
During the day Kerbside transforms into a cafe that offers lunch and coffee (first coffee is on them).
I was designated driver the night I attended Kerbside but I can't wait to get back and enjoy a few drinks and I suggest you all check it out.

The Cliffs Cafe - Kangaroo point
http://www.cliffscafe.com.au/
One of if not the best view in Brisbane. I have been saying for years that a cafe or bar at Kangaroo Point would be awesome and successful. The Cliffs Cafe at Kangaroo point is indeed that, especially on a beautiful Brisbane day like today, not only today but most days it is packed with people which of course is always a good sign. I have only ever breakfast, coffee and deserts there which have always been delicious and satisfying. Today i was naughty and ordered the New York cheesecake it was beautiful and fresh and seemed to be made by the chefs as opposed to an outside catering company that most cafes do these days with there cakes and sweets. Pricing is standard and the service is quick and great. The Cliffs also does dinner but only on selected dates, I for one am looking forward to having dinner in front of the city lights of Brisbane. They are also licensed so you can enjoy a beer and wine instead of tea or coffee. So next time if your looking for a place to go especially when you have a visitor from interstate or overseas try the Cliff Cafe at Kangaroo Point.

Mirasoul Caxton St
http://www.mirasoul.com.au/
If you go to an event at Suncorp Stadium and you fancy a drink before or after try Mirasoul which situated on Caxton st directly opposite the Caxton hotel. The Caxton hotel is a tradition to some people before or after the game but sometimes i find it overcrowded and unbelievably loud. Last night this was the case so i convinced my friend to try "the place across the road" which turned out to be Mirasoul. The service was quick , friendly and they serve your drinks in GLASS, there is a dj and they have fox sports so you can still watch sport. So next time you go for a drink in caxton st think outside the box and try something new, there's more to caxton st than the caxton hotel and hotel LA.

Fuel Bulimba
Well my very first blog...
http://www.fuelclothing.com.au/
If your in need for a new set of vans, MLB new era caps or anything street wear you have to check this place out. Fuel Clothing on oxford st Bulimba, the place is owned (i presume) by this american guy. He has brought over his american service skills and brings them to the table. The service he offers you is second to none, too often these days we walk into a clothing store to find staff that simply don't want to be there and the help they provide can sometimes be painful. My girlfriend and i strolled in there after a movie just to have a casual look. The massive shoe collection is situated at the front of the window which pulled me in and thats where i first went to. I didn't get instant help which is a plus in my opinion, we all want at least five minutes to ourselves to check shit out. But when i was served my american friend was great, his knowledge was infectious and he had my full attention.
I ended up going for a pare of pants that were ordered in from overseas for me cause they were out of my size and my girlfriend went for a pare of suede pants. It went from us going in with no intention of buying to us purchasing two items worth $200. In saying this the staff were never pushy and yes they were good salesman and offered great customer service but all the clothes they stock Ive never seen in other shops around brisbane. Now i will always go back and see my american friend and buy some more stuff from fuel clothing ... everyone go check it out.
